Montgomery County Auditor’s Office wins national award for community outreach to tornado victims

The Montgomery County Auditor’s Office is one of the 2020 Achievement Award recipients named by the National Association of Counties. The award recognizes the Auditor’s Office for its community outreach campaign helping provide property tax relief to victims of last year’s Memorial Day tornadoes.

Montgomery County was one of five Ohio counties to receive an Achievement Award this year.

The Auditor’s Office said their community outreach campaign provided tax relief to about 1,200 tornado-damaged properties and reduced the taxable value of these properties by $46 million.

“After last year’s devastating storms, my staff and I were committed to doing everything we could to help property owners whose homes or businesses were left severely damaged or destroyed,” said Keith.

The community outreach campaign involved reaching property owners through different methods including digital advertising, community outreach events, news stories, mobile assistance centers and tax relief mailings.

“Our goal was to prevent anyone with tornado damaged property from being stuck with a full tax bill,” he said. “We pushed ourselves to go above and beyond to make sure property owners knew they had options.”
